Armed insurgents kill six people in Papua Highlands

(MENAFN) Over six individuals were reported dead in a Friday ambush by armed insurgents in the remote eastern region of Papua Highlands, according to the Indonesian military on Sunday. The attack occurred in the Aggruk district of the Yakuhimo area.

The Papua Cendrawasih Military Command's spokesperson, Candra Kurniawan, stated that the victims, including six teachers, were allegedly burned alive inside a school building. "Six teachers were killed in a barbaric and inhumane attack. In this attack, the rebels burned down a school as well as teachers' houses," Kurniawan added.

Authorities have identified four of the victims, including a medical worker. A representative for the National Liberation Army of West Papua (TPNBP) confirmed the group's involvement, stating that the victims were part of an intelligence unit assigned by Indonesian security forces in the Yakuhimo region.
