Ukraine Demands Apology from News Agency for Describing Kyiv as Russian City
Several Ukrainian news platforms, highlighted that the news agency had aired clips of Easter celebrations from various locations around the world.
Among these, the channel included footage from a religious gathering in Moscow that featured Russian Leader Vladimir Putin.
In addition, a New York-based broadcaster showcased scenes from Easter services in Kyiv. Initially, the caption on screen accurately identified the location as “Kyiv, Ukraine.”
However, it was later altered to “Kyiv, Russia,” a change that reportedly remained visible for approximately 20 minutes before being amended.
“If this was a mistake rather than a deliberate political statement, there should be an apology and an investigation into who made the mistake,” stated Foreign Ministry representative Heorhii Tykhyi on the social platform X.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also weighed in with a message on X, expressing gratitude toward media outlets for "sharing the truth about what is happening" during the temporary Easter truce declared by Putin just a day prior.
Zelenskyy emphasized that instead of highlighting religious events in Moscow, the global spotlight should be redirected toward compelling Moscow to honor a sincere ceasefire.
He stressed the need for the truce to last “at least 30 days after Easter” in order to truly allow diplomatic efforts to take root.
