Russian Military Mi-8 Helicopter Crashes, Kills All Personnel Aboard

(MENAFN) A Russian Mi-8 military helicopter crashed on Friday in the Oryol region, located about 368 kilometers (229 miles) southwest of Moscow, during a training operation, resulting in the death of all personnel aboard.

"The helicopter went down in a deserted area. There is no damage on the ground. The crew did not survive. A technical malfunction is considered the preliminary cause of the crash," the Russian Defense Ministry stated in an official release, without disclosing the number of crew members.

The Russian Aerospace Forces have deployed a team to the crash location to conduct a thorough investigation, the statement added.

Governor of Oryol Region, Andrey Klychkov, reported that emergency responders and law enforcement officials are carrying out inquiries in the Uritsky District, where the accident happened.

He reassured that there is no risk to nearby inhabitants and requested that the public refrain from sharing images or videos from the scene.
