Germany Rules Out U.S. Role in Israel, Iran War
Wadephul highlighted in an interview with a public radio broadcaster that "The United States made clear from the beginning that they would not participate in this war. That was the very first statement from colleague Marco Rubio."
He indicated that Washington had firmly declared its stance from the outset, distancing itself from any military intervention.
When questioned about Israel’s recent appeal for U.S. military assistance in its operations against Iran, Wadephul clarified that such a determination rests entirely with the Trump administration, not with Israeli leadership.
He emphasized that it is up to Washington, not Prime Minister Netanyahu’s government, to make that call.
"The position of the United States is very clear in all declarations and actions. I have no indication whatsoever that the United States has any interest in participating in this. By the way, neither does anyone else," Wadephul remarked, reaffirming his belief that Washington remains disinterested in taking part.
The German official reiterated that Berlin continues to regard Iran’s ballistic missile development and nuclear capabilities as a substantial danger—not only to Israel and the Middle East, but to the European continent as well.
He noted that Germany, the United Kingdom, and France are engaging in discussions with Tehran in pursuit of a negotiated solution to the crisis.
"We’ve seen a program in Iran involving ballistic missiles. And they have a very long range and could possibly also be equipped with nuclear weapons. This could not only affect and unsettle Israel and the region, but also Europe," Wadephul concluded, underlining the wider implications of Iran’s military advancements.
