Muslim Tech Fest Opens in London, Sparks Global Innovation
Launched in 2023 by Arfah Farooq and Zahid Mahmood, MTF was created to bring together a diverse global network of tech founders, developers, and investors. The festival aims to reshape the industry by fostering authentic connections, challenging conventional norms, and pushing for a purpose-driven future in technology.
Partnering with Anadolu as its global media ally, this year’s gathering welcomed over 1,500 attendees representing 27 countries, including the UK, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the United States, and Canada.
“This isn’t about diversity optics,” the organizers emphasized. “It’s about real access.”
‘We need to go back to principles as Muslims’
MTF co-founder Zahid Mahmood stressed that the vision behind the event is to reimagine technological progress through the lens of Islamic ethics.
"Faith and innovation aren't opposites; they've always gone hand in hand. What we need to do is go back to first principles as Muslims and see how it is that we build enterprise, technology, and innovation in a way that serves Allah," he said.
According to Mahmood, aligning with these foundational values doesn’t mean rejecting the mainstream tech ecosystem—it’s about embedding the right philosophy into it. “It’s not contradictory to what major tech companies are doing today—it's about putting the right philosophy and principles in place."
He also highlighted the need to build inclusive technology that addresses the needs of all, including people with disabilities and those unfamiliar with digital tools. Islamic ethics, he explained, push creators to consider the broader societal impacts of their work.
Gaza and global struggles not ignored
In addition to innovation showcases, MTF provided space for candid conversations on difficult global issues, including the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
"We spend a lot of time and effort inviting those from conflict zones," Mahmood said.
"We have Gaza Sky Geeks' presence here today to share their stories… these are real human beings living a very difficult truth."
Continuing last year’s precedent—when MTF hosted a Gaza Expo—the 2025 edition ensured Palestinian voices were heard through virtual talks and startup presentations, despite the challenges they face.
"Technology alone is not going to save the world," Mahmood said. "But if this event can inspire someone to make a change, support a cause, or spread a message, then it’s been a success."
