U.S. Targets Iran Nuclear Facilities in Precision Strikes
Earlier Saturday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States had carried out attacks on three key nuclear locations in Iran, specifically naming "Fordow, Natanz and Esfahan." Speaking on his social platform Truth Social, Trump declared, "All planes are now outside of Iran's airspace. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow."
Following the strikes, Trump insisted Tehran must consent to "end this war," urging a resolution through his post on Truth Social.
An Iranian news agency confirmed the strikes on its nuclear infrastructure. Hassan Abedini, deputy political director at Iran's state broadcaster, stated that the three nuclear sites had been evacuated "a while ago," which meant Iran "didn't suffer a major blow because the materials had already been taken out."
The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran acknowledged the U.S. attacks but vowed to continue its efforts. In a statement released after Trump’s announcement, the agency affirmed: "The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran assures the great Iranian nation that despite the evil conspiracies of its enemies, with the efforts of thousands of its revolutionary and motivated scientists and experts, it will not allow the development of this national industry, which is the result of the blood of nuclear martyrs, to be stopped."
Reports from local media cited two sources familiar with the military operation, revealing that the U.S. employed the GBU-57A/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator bomb — widely known as the "bunker buster" — in the strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites. B-2 bombers were identified as the only aircraft capable of deploying these powerful bombs.
The report also noted that President Trump and his administration coordinated with leading congressional Republicans before launching the strikes, but notably did not inform top Democrats about the plan until after the bombs had been dropped.
