US Embassy in Caracas Carries Out Air Evacuation Drill Amid Military Activity
(MENAFN) The U.S. Embassy in Caracas conducted a planned evacuation exercise on Saturday involving two MV-22 Osprey aircraft, as part of a rapid-response drill focused on emergency readiness, according to reports.
The operation took place in the Baruta district of the Venezuelan capital, where the tiltrotor aircraft performed coordinated flight maneuvers over the city before landing at the embassy compound. The exercise also included the arrival of emergency teams such as fire and medical personnel, who entered the building as part of the simulated scenario.
In a public statement shared through official channels, the embassy said: “An American military response exercise is currently being conducted at the US Embassy in Caracas. Maintaining the military’s rapid response capability is a key element of our mission readiness both in Venezuela and around the world."
The drill involved aircraft capable of both vertical takeoff and conventional flight, highlighting their use in rapid deployment and evacuation operations.
Venezuelan officials stated that the flights and landing operations were carried out under prior authorization and in coordination with national aviation authorities. According to reports, the activity was framed as a controlled exercise intended to prepare for potential medical emergencies or other crisis situations affecting diplomatic personnel.
Authorities overseeing the situation also indicated that emergency protocols were activated locally to support the operation, with coordination across relevant security and response agencies.
At the same time, a small number of protesters gathered elsewhere in Caracas to express opposition to the exercise, carrying signs rejecting the presence of foreign military aircraft over the capital.
The drill concluded without incident, and officials emphasized its role as part of routine preparedness procedures for diplomatic missions operating in complex environments.
