Macron Backs European Participation in US-Russia Summit
Addressing the press after a summit of the European Union's Mediterranean nations in Slovenia, Macron described the possibility of such a summit as "a very good thing," emphasizing the importance of the two presidents meeting to discuss their bilateral matters.
He further explained that when the conversation turns to Ukraine's future, "the Ukrainians should be around the table," and when issues concerning European security are discussed, "Europeans should be around the table."
Macron also reiterated France's unwavering support for Ukraine, praising the nation's perseverance in the face of the ongoing conflict.
He remarked that Ukraine continues to resist "with great bravery by continuing to innovate and produce."
Additionally, he highlighted an upcoming event on Friday, which will be a mix of in-person and virtual participation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will be present, underscoring the continued progress in Ukraine's efforts.
The French president further stressed that any potential peace deal regarding Ukraine must be "robust and lasting," adhering to international law and ensuring long-term stability. "No other (peace) exists. And Europeans have always been clear on this," he affirmed.
Last week, President Trump encouraged Zelenskyy to pursue an agreement with Russia, proposing that both sides cease fighting along the current front lines. In response, Zelenskyy reaffirmed that Ukraine would not make any concessions to Moscow.
